Video surveillance
Video surveillance at certain publicly accessible locations in Liechtenstein helps to increase the security of the population. The recording of footage and the possibility of a live feed to the National Police serve to prevent criminal offenses, prosecute crimes and intervene immediately in emergencies.
The following publicly accessible locations are monitored by the provincial police using video recording, with certain cameras recording around the clock and others only when necessary. The monitored areas and the type of recording (permanent or only on occasion) can be seen in the following documents:
Subject to the use of the recordings in criminal proceedings or to prevent a criminal offense, the video recordings are deleted after 30 days at the latest.
The legal basis for this type of video surveillance can be found in Art. 34 sect. 1 let. a of the police act.
The National Police also monitor the "Gnalp-Steg" road tunnel. The monitored areas can be viewed here.
The purpose of this video surveillance is to ensure safe and smooth traffic flow and to coordinate the emergency services in the event of an accident or fire. The recordings are deleted after 24 hours unless they are needed to document an event. This video surveillance is based in particular on Art. 4 of the data protection act in conjunction with the corresponding standards for road tunnels with a length of more than 600 m (e.g. SIA 197/2).
