Current campaign

Safe on the road with the two-wheeler

Fortunately, more and more people are choosing the classic bicycle, the e-bike (fast or slow) or the e-scooter as their daily means of transportation. Unfortunately, this positive development also has its downsides. More and more cyclists are involved in road accidents, often resulting in serious injuries or even death. The national police, together with the Commission for Accident Prevention (KfU), have therefore launched the new campaign "Safe on the road on a two-wheeler". After all, these road users must also adhere to the traffic rules in order to avoid misunderstandings and accidents. However, a considerate and anticipatory riding style on two-wheelers also makes a significant contribution to accident prevention.

The "Safe on two-wheelers" campaign developed by the national police together with the KfU consists of four different subjects with the themes "Be careful when overtaking on the right", "No riding on the sidewalk", "No right of way at crosswalks" and "Riding in the middle at traffic circles". The national police plan to address other important topics in this area in the future and expand the campaign.

Caution when overtaking on the right
If motorized traffic is congested, cyclists (except motorcycles) are allowed to pass on the right of the convoy - provided there is enough space. However, they must not ride their bicycles in a slalom through the column. Overtaking on the right is also dangerous, for example due to vehicles turning right (blind spot).

No riding on the sidewalk
wo-wheelers of any type (e.g. classic bicycles and e-bikes with pedal assistance up to 25 or 45 km/h, e-scooters) are not permitted on the sidewalk.

The sidewalk is reserved for pedestrians and users of vehicle-like devices (e.g. inline skates, skateboards, scooters without a motor). Children up to the age of 12 may ride their bikes on the sidewalk if there is no cycle path or cycle lane. Riding style and speed must be adjusted accordingly, as pedestrians still have the right of way.

No right of way when riding at crosswalks
Without the right of way, two-wheeled vehicles are permitted on pedestrian crossings. However, if you dismount and push the two-wheeler, you have right of way. This also helps to avoid misunderstandings, dangerous situations and accidents.

Ride in the middle of the traffic circle
To ensure that cyclists are clearly seen and not overtaken in a traffic circle, they should ride through it in the middle of the lane. This recommendation can prevent dangerous situations and possible accidents.
